League of Legends Worlds Analysis, Semifinals - SSW vs. SSB Game #3

Samsung Blue vs. Samsung White Game #3
2v1 Lanes, SSB Top

Bans

Picks
1. Rengar 2. Twitch
3. Ryze 2. Janna
3. Sona 4. Lee Sin
5. Lucian 4. Kassadin
5. Twisted Fate 6. Fizz

Lane Match-ups – Samsung Blue

Top -
Ryze should have a pretty decent time against Kassadin, having stronger bully potential and able to keep Kassadin away from using his auto attack buff. As Ryze naturally builds tanky, this only helps to increase his strenght against Kassadin. Ryze should look to bully Kassadin at ever opportunity and keep him away from the creep line as much as possible. With both buying scaling items, Ryze should not even have to worry about his power-dip.

Mid -
Twisted Fate is going into a really rough match-up. While he can put pressure onto Fizz for the first level, it becomes increasing risky, especially at level 3 on. His best bet is going to be staying far away from Fizz, using Wild Cards to farm from a distance and waiting until level 6 to make plays elsewhere on the map. Respecting how much of a counter Fizz is will be essential for any type of safety or ability to be useful around the map. Avoid Fizz, long range farm, and gank other lanes with ultimate.

Bot -
Lucian/Sona have the advantage over Twitch/Janna, having very strong poke, all-in, and sustain. They should be able to take over this lane, especially against Twitch who cannot do quick harassment trades and whose range is short enough for Sona to get in to hit him. SSB's duo should be looking to bully the lane from the very start and continue to for the entirety of the laning phase. Really there is nothing that SSB need to worry about, being able to stop Twitch's level 6 attempts as well with Sona's ultimate.

Jungle -
Rengar is going to want to farm as quickly as possible, getting to 6 and making use of his ultimate to pull of solid ganks, especially against Kassadin with Ryze. Even before 6 a gank against Kassadin should be strong. Rengar should look to protect Ryze and Twisted Fate against ganks, with his bottom lane fine on their own, however his focus should still be on farming until 6.

Lane Match-ups – Samsung White

Top -
Kassadin is moving into a rough match-up. Lacking range and only having one (sometimes two) spells to fight against Ryze's three, he will be losing any harassment or trade attempts. At 6 things will only be worse as Ryze will gain AoE and spell-vamp where as Kassadin will still be unable to make use of his auto attack spell. Kassadin's best bet is going to be getting what farm he can scrounge up against Ryze and wait for either a Lee Sin gank or his level 6. At level 6 Kassadin may just want to let the lane go and look to roam for ganks, especially for Fizz.

Mid -
Fizz is a huge counter-pick to Twisted Fate and should be looking to dominate him early on. Fizz will have to wait until at least level 2, but then he will have a great time pushing Twisted Fate around. Pole hop can dodge Twisted Fate's stun, while his dash will get him in range to deal way more damage than Twisted Fate is able to return. Bullying Twisted Fate will be essential for keeping him down and keeping him from being able to to make plays around the map. Once Fizz hits level 6, instead of just bullying Twisted Fate, anytime he lands his fish ultimate, Fizz should be able to get the kill onto Twisted Fate pretty easily, or at least send him home with very little health.

Bot -
SSW should be looking to hit the 2v1 lane swap, as this duo of Twitch/Janna is weak to SSB's duo lane. In the 2v2, there would be little that SSW's duo could do, and so they must make sure that they find the 2v1. This will let Janna roam better than Sona, and let Twitch get the farm he needs to reach assassin status. If they end up in the 2v2, they will have to scrounge up what farm they can while not getting pushed out of lane too early by SSB's duo.

Jungle -
Lee Sin is going to want to use his early game prowess to help out Kassadin primarily. Ganks against mid will also be strong, mostly due to Fizz as a counter-pick, with Lee Sin providing that over the hump slow/damage to secure the kill. At 6, ganking Ryze should help Kassadin pick up a kill/assist, so long as Rengar does not counter-gank. An early Sight Stone from Lee Sin will help his team keep track of Rengar.

Team Composition/Strategy – Samsung Blue

*Win Condition – Get picks and snowball into a lead.

SSB have a strong team with a lot of pick potential. Four champions are able to provide solid CC (though Sona's is on her ultimate) and will allow SSB to capitalize on SSW's mistakes, as well as make their own plays. This is a real team composition from SSB, even if there are some squishy members. SSB are going to need to play strong individually, and play for picks as long as they can. With a lead they can siege up a turret, as long as they are very careful about the Twitch and Fizz engagement. They will need good wards to prevent flanks, and will have to have good reactions to turn onto members of SSW. Stun Card from TF and Sona's ultimate's should be used after a snare from Ryze or Rengar hits, to prevent the dodging from Kassadin and Fizz. Must be warned, SSW are going to be looking for picks too. The strength of SSB will be how fast they can get to them with TF/Rengar ultimate where as SSW will have more opportunities. It's going to be a very pick filled brawling team. SSW have mobility, SSB have the control.

Team Composition/Strategy – Samsung White

*Win Condition – Use the mobility of their champions to find picks and number advantage skirmishes. Have fizz control Twisted Fate.

Similar to SSB's team, SSW are also looking for picks, but where as SSB are looking for them with CC, SSW are looking for them with burst and mobility. More assassinations than control. Number advantages will work highly in SSW's favor. They should look to get past the initial weak laning phase and then start to take advantage of roaming ability, especially from Fizz. Fizz + Lee Sin can basically control a side of the river/jungle, forcing TF to ultimate to the other side of the map. SSW can make TF ganks more predictable and should. If all goes well, SSW have a team that will far out-match SSB in the late game, so they do having something to fall back on, should the game go bad.

Game Notes -

SSW are able to get a 3 buff start, playing the lane swap better. Since SSB sent their duo top, but did not invade and did not start Red, they lose out when SSW's duo heads bottom.

Twisted Fate gets too close to Fizz and takes a lot of damage. Watch how beautiful the Fizz play is though. He pole hops in, at level 1, as the creep he needs for level 2 is about to die.

A great Janna Tornado stops Rengar from his brush leap to try to smite the red buff.

Twitch/Janna just outplay Ryze/Sona and get a kill they really should not have gotten, killing Ryze.

A good defensive ward catches Rengar out and Kassadin/Lee Sin are able to pick him off.

Twitch is dealing so much damage on Ryze, since Ryze has no armor runes.

SSW are already pulling ahead in the side lanes, making it very hard for TF coming up.

*Fizz's first back gets him a Doran's Ring and 2 Amplifying Tomes. He could have bought say... a Sheen or say an Arm-guard. But this setup gives him more AP and some hp/regen. The AP will allow him to clear the waves much faster, even if denying him some duel potential.

SSB make a great 5 man dive onto the bottom turret of SSW. They use TF ultimate and Ryze TP. SSW follow, but are too late in getting there with Lee Sin and Fizz.

SSB move to dragon with the 5v3, but they are low. SSW make the engagement 5v3, are able to steal dragon, and get a 4 for 1 at the dragon pit. SSB's good play over reaches for more, and get picked on by the mobility of SSW. Too much is down for SSB to be able to make this fight. Greedy play that will really cost them this match. 3 kills onto Kassadin =/

SSW now use their mobility and strength to just, run SSB rampant. Starting with a 4 man dive mid onto TF and then taking the tower.

SSB do take the bottom turret, and get some pressure onto the T2 turret, but SSB are just demoralized now. Evidenced by TF's Mejai's and sloppy play.

SSB just, jump into the middle of the SSW team in the jungle, and get assassinated 1 by 1.

Game is over, not much to watch here now.

End Game Notes -

Already demoralized, SSB just get out-classed this game after a failed dragon attempt.

What Samsung Blue should have done -

It was the dragon fight. Morale was low, got a high point at the turret, but it fell when they got destroyed at the dragon and that was just the end for SSB.

The problem was greed at the dragon, but you can't overly fault it from an emotional sense. SSB had a 5v3, and thought, if we can just get one more thing.

League of Legends Worlds Analysis, Semifinals - SSW vs. SSB Game #2

Samsung White vs. Samsung Blue Game #2
2v1 Lanes, SSW Top

Picks
1. Maokai 2. Lucian
3. Rengar 2. Janna
3. Corki 4. Ryze
5. Jayce 4. Khazix
5. Morgana 6. Galio

Lane Match-ups – Samsung White

Top -
This is a really awkward match-up, though one that is really in Maokai's favor. Mostly this lane will just be a farm fest on both sides, with neither having kill potential, but with Maokai having the ability to combo Galio for higher damage. Essentially, the game will be, farm and move to team-fights. Maokai should be looking to make sure he has his ultimate on when Galio wants to try to ultimate, significantly cutting back on the damage. Have fun with your free lane Maokai.

Mid -
Jayce is going to want to look primarily to be safe and get poke onto Ryze. Farm from range, whittle Ryze down without taking damage in return, and then wait for an opportunity to all-in when Ryze is low. Jayce does not need to make any big plays though, as simply farming will be enough in this composition, providing poke in the mid-game against the lack of engagement on SSB's side.

Bot -
Corki/Morgana are going to have a pretty even time against Lucian/Janna. A lot of this lane will be dependent on Morgana landing her bindings, keeping Lucian or Janna in place for Corki bombs while providing damage. If Morgana misses her bindings, Lucian will have free reign to go in against Corki and out-trade him with Janna's shield. As a couple levels come into play, it will be harder to catch Lucian, due to his dash, but will be necessary to keep the lane going even. At level 6, NWS will gain poke, as well as all-in, provided they don't let Lucian dive in to his bullying right away and push one of them out. Morgana will have to think about when to shield herself at level 6, to prevent Janna from knocking her away when Morgana uses her ultimate.

Jungle -
Rengar is going to want to focus on farming to 6 as quickly as possible. His top and mid lane should be very safe, while the bottom lane is going to be running even but will be safe against getting killed. Once 6, Rengar can make use of it anywhere, with high damage and solid CC every lane. Any one of them would be a good option.

Lane Match-ups – Samsung Blue

Top -
Galio is going to be entering a farm fest with Maokai, neither able to really pressure the other, as tankiness and sustain will keep them going. Galio can however, very quickly wave clear. It may be his best option to just, clear the wave and then disappear from lane, looking around in the jungle or river, just being in a closer position to join a fight if one were to occur.

Mid -
Ryze is stronger than Jayce in a straight up fight, especially if he decides to pick up an early armor item. The problem however is going to be getting in range to fight, as Jayce can poke at Ryze from a long distance, and is able to wave clear faster to push Ryze back. Early boots may be a good option, allowing Ryze to dodge skillshots and to get in range for trades/harassment against Jayce. Mostly, I don't see Ryze being able to stop Jayce without some help to keep him slowed or CC'ed, however Jayce will not be able to stop Ryze from farming completely either. The downside, Jayce's power-spike comes in sooner than Ryze's and that will affect the mid-game team-fights.

Bot -
An even match-up, Lucian/Janna can turn it in their favor early and keep it that way if they play it right though. Janna shield + Lucian Q will be very strong at level 1, and should win them the lane, as long as they can dodge Morgana's binding. As the lane progresses, OMG's lane should continue to bully Corki, with Lucian saving his dash to dodge Morgana's binding and effectively winning the lane by dodge out on that damage. At 6, poke will be going over to Corki, as well as some strong all-in potential with Morgana's ultimate. Lucian however, come dive Corki instantly, putting down his burst damage and moving into the culling to get him to half hp or lower. This will prevent a lot of NWS's ability to fight back if he can pull it off successfully.

Jungle -
Khazix is going to want to farm, trying to keep up with Rengar and move into his level 6 with poke, giving his team some much needed chase potential. As far as ganking goes, looking for one against either Maokai or Jayce will be the best bets, especially with Ryze using a Flash snare to start the fight.

Team Composition/Strategy – Samsung White

*Win Condition – Get some solid poke and skirmishes in the mid-game and turn into a solid 5v5 fight. Turret siege with Jayce and Corki.

SSW have a very solid composition, they have strong brawling potential, good poke, good catch, a front-line and a half. It's just all round strong with no big weakness. Their biggest strength will be with the poke that SSW can put down and the protection that Maokai and Morgana can provide. This is doubly so with how little engage and how little poke SSB have. SSW have no need to engage at any point and can just siege SSB and wait for opportunities to provide themselves. SSW just need to avoid Ryze and Galio flanks and they should be able to safely and methodically take this game.

Team Composition/Strategy – Samsung Blue

*Win Condition – Get a nice solid 5v5 team-fight and take down SSW while they are distracted with Galio.

SSB are going to have their work cut out for them again, but this time it will be in getting into SSW's team. SSB have the ability to win lanes and control the game, however they have no real way to force a team-fight. They are going to need to utilize dragon and jungle objectives (as 5) to force SSW into fights. Other than that, Ryze and Galio are going to need to get into good flanking positions to be able to even think about getting into SSW's team. Even then, Galio is against 2.5 AD champions and Maokai who's ultimate is a circle of protection. If SSB can find the right fight, Galio's ultimate should give the rest of the team time to clean-up and deal the damage that they need to.

Game Notes -

SSW go for an invade, but are completely caught out and SSB get First Blood onto Ryze, letting him grab Tear at level 1.

SSB look to have handicapped themselves with the Galio pick, but we shall see how it turns out.

SSB start a very very early dragon. Khazix is not even level 3. They do a good job of juggling, but are seen by a ward from SSW. SSB totally ignore Jayce and he is able to get TWO kills and dragon in what is a 1v4 or a 1 and dragon v 4. I don't know why Ryze did not try to fight/zone Jayce. SSW go a little too aggressive after this, they already had a 2 + dragon for 1, but when they tried to save Jayce, SSB get a 2 for one for themselves. Fight ends up being a 3 for 3, SSW getting dragon, SSB ending up with brand new double buffs on Ryze and Lucian.

During that time/fight, Galio has gotten a lot more CS than Maokai.

CS and levels start to even out.

Rengar goes very aggressive onto Janna, but knows the play is a 3v3 with 2 ultimates to 1, and with SSB split. River ward has shown him Khazix's position. Maokai uses TP to zone Khazix out and to pin Galio, but cancels it after Galio flashes away.

Look at this split by SSW at the dragon. They have 2 threats on each side, and their poke is coming from both directions. SSB cannot initiate onto one side, especially since they are already on dragon, without the other side of SSW closing in on them. Normally in this you want to collapse on one side, but its already too late, SSW are too close for SSB to be able to hit one side and run. SSB do get the dragon, but the fight trade is a 4 for 3 in SSW's favor.

Outside of these two spikes, the game is going fairly slow. Both sides looking to get to and play the power spike they want.

A great catch by Janna nets a kill on Corki, but because of the Trinity force Corki is able to deal a ton of damage to Lucian, when Maokai's TP comes in, he is able to clean up Lucian easily and him and Morgana can kill Janna.

Rengar gets a catch on Ryze in the Jungle, and this would actually get Rengar killed, but a long range Gate-Blast from Jayce hits Ryze while he is snared. A great plan and execution by SSW.

Janna gets caught trying to wards and the damage from Corki is just too big.

Rengar tries to catch Ryze again, but this time Ryze turns it around and forces Rengar to flash to safety.

Janna gets caught again.

SSB are getting caught out a lot now, especially Janna, and with Janna down SSW take an easy dragon.

Galio uses his ultimate just to try to secure 1 kill, and it is not up when they really need it.

SSW are just, rolling SSB around now, drawing them into split up situations and finding them in rotational mistake after rotational mistake.

End Game Notes -

SSB really handicapped themselves by picking Galio.

Without any form of real engage and with no poke on SSB, they just cut their options in this game to almost nothing. They have no way to deal with Jayce/Corki, and no way to get in to fight them, especially against Maokai/Rengar/Morgana being a wall and just enough disengage against Galio.

I feel that Ryze would have been stronger with TP instead of Ghost, able to help around the map to get SSB ahead.

What Samsung Blue should have done -

Again with the awkward pick. Galio offered nothing to this team, and SSB built nothing into their composition to deal with the poke/protect of SSW. SSB are just getting destroyed by picks/bans and even picking into awful champions against the SSW composition. It's just... bad.

Going forward, SSB have to step back, take some very deep breaths, have some warm soothing tea or coffee, and regroup. Mentality here is going to be the very first step.

After that, SSB need to craft a team that they want to play, and decide what champions would defeat that team and ban those out. There is going to need to be a little bit of rigidity in the next team composition for SSB, with a few picks being flexible. They cannot ban out SSW, and they should not even try. Ban out champions that are going to mess with SSB's composition choice.

Picks
1. Zilean 2. Twitch
3. Kayle 2. Rengar
3. Lee Sin 4. Jayce
5. Varus 4. Janna
5. Yasuo 6. Akali

Lane Match-ups – Samsung Blue

Top -
Kayle can easily bully Akali in this match-up, keeping her way down throughout the match. Even if she tries to stealth, Kayle can get incidental damage onto her through his splash auto attack. Kayle should look to push hard, deal the damage he can, and keep Akali back. As level 6 hits, Kayle should back off to base, and make sure he comes to lane with a pink ward. Fighting Akali heads up will be difficult, as her burst is pretty strong, however a well timed Intervention can change the outcome of the fight. If Kayle does not have a pink ward though, he will lose fights at level 6 for sure. The outcome of this lane is really going to be determined by how big of an item/exp advantage Kayle can gain before Akali reaches level 6.

Mid -
Yasuo against Jayce is a rough match-up. Yasuo is going to have to be very tricky with his dashes, using a creep to get close to Jayce and then dashing to Jayce after the knock-back. Yasuo is going to be hard pressed to pull this off though, especially without taking so much damage that he simply can't fight. Yasuo will most likely have to wait until 6 to make any real moves, relying on his ultimate for the engagement and then dashing for the follow-up. If he can get in for the all-in though, Yasuo should be able to win the fight.

Bot -
This bot lane combo confuses me very much. There isn't much synergy and it seems that Zilean is just picked for being Zilean. SSB's duo can attempt to harass, timing double bombs with Varus Q/E for maximum effect, blowing up Janna shield before it can be used and doing a quick in and out trade combo. However, it is harder than it sounds. As the lanes progress, it will get even worse. Janna ultimate should be able to heal through a lot of the DPS that Varus can do after the burst, while Twitch will be able to easily assassinate Varus the moment Twitch picks up his BotRK. All in all, its going to be a rough time for SSB, without any real power-spikes showing up in the 2v2.

Jungle -
Lee Sin is going to want to to put a bit of focus on ganking for top and mid in this match-up. Lee Sin's natural reveal will be huge for ganking Akali, while at level 6 his synergy with Yasuo will pretty much guarantee kills against Jayce. An early Sight Stone will be amazing for keeping track of Rengar.

Lane Match-ups – Samsung White

Top -
Akali is going to have a rough time early against Kayle, but if she can survive to level 6, then she stands a much better chance. Without any solid CC, Kayle cannot stop the damage that Akali is able to put out, or even escape. The downside is Intervention and Akali may have to draw it out before fully committing to an engagement. Akali is going to have to play safe, and get what CS she can. If she is able to get any kind of lead, then she will be able to dominate Kayle once level 6 is reached. Timing engagements, as Kayle's ranged buff ends will be huge, especially before he is able to reach 90%+ up-time.

Mid -
Jayce should be able to control the flow of the mid lane in this match-up. Yasuo does not have too much that he can do, with Jayce able to poke, trade damage, and knock-back Yasuo when he tries to engage. Farm, harrass, and win lane. Jayce should only need to worry once level 6 hits, and then his two concerns will be dodging knock-up from Yasuo and Lee Sin ganks.

Bot -
Twitch/Janna should have solid control over this lane, even from level 1. Twitch can immediately start to bully Varus with Janna shield, able to get several stacks of poison before Varus can respond with his Q. The only worry that Twitch/Janna are going to have in this lane, is getting poked by Varus. Provided they can dodge or sustain through it (which will happen when Twitch gets his Bilgewater Cutlass) they should have almost nothing to fear in this 2v2. Once Twitch reaches assassination status with BotRK, the matches tilts even farther as Varus has no way to escape Twitch and cannot out damage him.

Jungle -
Rengar is going to want to focus on farming to 6 as quickly as possible. His top and bottom lane should be very safe, while Akali is going to have to play safe, and a gank would yield little results. Once 6 though, Rengar can make use of it anywhere, with high damage and weak escape in every lane. Any one of them would be a good option.

Team Composition/Strategy – Samsung Blue

*Win Condition - Teamfight 5v5 and be on point with the Kayle and Zilean ultimates. Do not get split up, do not double ultimate someone. Do not fall behind.

Samsung Blue's team is super super squishy and lacks mobility, especially against SSW's team composition. This team composition is going to have to bring themselves together fairly early to avoid getting picked off in 1's or on small groups. This team has a huge huge huge skill cap and the tiniest of windows for error. Two save your life ultimates, only 1 knock-up synergy for Yasuo (though it is one of the best) and then an immobile ADC who is also terrible at dueling. Varus is the only disengage for SSB, but he can't disengage against a Rengar. Rengar will be able to leap in range to snare, even if in full vision. This is going to be a rough match for SSB, because of how much mobility, stick, and pick potential that SSW have. SSB are going to have to be really on point with their ultimates this game, and not lose the game early, or else they will have almost no chance of coming back.

Team Composition/Strategy – Samsung White

*Win Condition – Pull SSB apart and get picks in the early to mid-game. Get a small lead and siege as five or get leads in every lane and just force SSB to defend multiple targets until they leave themselves vulnerable.

Samsung White have a much stronger composition going into this match. They have poke over SSB, which is huge because SSB lack any strong engagement tools. They also just, out-match all of SSB's champions with their own, except for maybe Kayle vs. Akali, and Yasuo only in combination with Lee Sin. There is so much pick potential on SSW that they should really be relying on that. Rengar and Twitch alone offer hurt catch in rotations and lanes and jungle, especially against Varus. If SSW can also get Akali going, she will be able to stick to and kill members of SSB, who have no peel, and only 1 CC. This game is really in SSW's hands, and all they have to do is keep away from the 5v5 fight until they are ahead.

Game Notes -

SSB try to take SSW's red buff, but are unable to as Janna is roaming with the jungle/top combo.

A duel in mid ends with traded summoners and no kills, Yasuo is forced back, Jayce has to Flash. Slight CS edge to Jayce over this.

SSW take the dragon for free since they have the numbers advantage from the lane swap.

SSB push the top turret, looking to swap back into the 1v1 top laners as there is a decent lead on Kayle. Both SSB and SSW take a turret.

Flash ultimate by Varus is a little impatient and gains nothing for it.

Both teams send the duo middle, and the mid laners bottom.

SSB have done a great job with the lane swap and rotations to keep Akali way down.

SSB and SSW skirmish on bot lane, Lee Sin/Yasuo against Rengar/Jayce with more coming in after. Unfortunately, SSB overlap Exhaust and ultimates, making Exhaust worthless. SSW play the fight so well, and once the Intervention is down, SSW burst down Yasuo and Janna moves in to force SSB to run. SSW get 2 kills for 0, and Dragon. This lets Akali buy a Bilgewater Cutlass to the Hextech Revolver she had before.

Twitch/Janna get the assassinate drop on Varus, even right next to his tower. Zilean gets off the ultimate, but ends up getting killed by not just backing up.

SSW head top, and make a dive/fight in between turrets. With Zilean and Varus ultimate down, SSW are able to weave in and out to outplay SSW. Lee Sin kicks Twitch, but Yasuo is not ready for it and does not ultimate.

SSW are way ahead, especially for their team composition. All SSW need to do now take objectives, and split up to force bad map rotations out of SSB.

SSW do try for a somewhat consolidated team fight, but it goes 1 for 1. Almost went worse but Janna's ultimate heals a giant amount for SSW. SSW get Dragon.

Yasuo gets an amazing ultimate that nets his team a kill and lots of damage onto SSW, however the rest of the fight goes bad and SSW goes 3 for 1.

SSW take Baron for free.

SSB should just go do something ridiculous. And push in a place that SSW won't expect, like.... sneak down the bot lane into the bushes and then rush towards SSW's inhibitor. Trade objectives, or draw SSW back into a fight where SSB is the one pushing.

SSW are taking a bit of extra time for this match. They look to be trying to demoralize SSB.

Keep watching if you want to see more stomp.

End Game Notes -

Stomp a lomp a domp domp.

SSB's composition just could not handle any mistakes, and they made a few of them.

What Samsung Blue should have done.

Not picked a composition that was hinging on a the head of a pin. They played well at the start, even keeping Akali down, but all it took was one play to go in SSW's favor, and they gained the momentum they need to take out SSB's composition. The mechanical skill level for this composition, was honestly almost inhuman and without being able to pull that off, there was no synergy, or even any protection for this team.

Going forward, Samsung Blue should just regroup, and go back to one of their more standard compositions and one that doesn't require TAS level skill.

Oh, and realize that SSW will probably be banning out your top laner, the Maokai/Rumble bans are a good showcase, and banning out that Ryze was really hurtful to SSB.

Also, drop the Zilean and drop the Varus >.>'

End Series Notes -

GFG. Death is coming to the Finals.

There is almost nothing to be able to take from this series it was such a stomp.

You can't ban out SSW, not at all, don't even bother to try.

Watch out for Jayce and Rengar.

  Samsung Blue vs. Samsung White

Pre-game notes on SSB and SSW can be found here:

Everything mentioned about these teams in the above links apply to these matches as well. Read them for major notes about the teams.

Updates from Quarterfinals -

Samsung White are looking much more dominant that Samsung Blue. Not only from the Quarterfinals but also from even before in the Group Stages. They seem to have a true handle on this incarnation of League of Legends and outside of the one game against TSM that they slacked off, have put forth a very intimidating and strong performance. Being sister teams, this stronger performance bodes very well for Samsung White going into the Semi-finals. Champion pools, team compositions, map rotations, understanding enemy team compositions, strategies, objective focus, everything is looking in Samsung Whites favor with the likelihood of a surprise or different play style coming out of Samsung Blue.

Having said that, they are sister teams so anything can happen. They both no each other so well, that even with the dominating strength that Samsung White has show, it is possible for Samsung Blue to come out with the win, even as underdogs. However, I feel that, without some kind of real change to the team, that they have a slightly less chance than TSM or C9 did.

It's going to be a rough series for SSB. There is almost no way for them to ban out anyone on SSW. It's almost as if, the pick/ban phase is completely in SSW's favor, and that blind pick would just be a better bet for SSB than anything else, though we know that can't happen. Good luck SSB.

Lane Match-ups – Cloud9

Top –
Rumble can attempt to bully Maokai early, but should not have too much success. Maokai will heal a lot from his passive due to Rumble's spell spamming. Rumble does win the all-in trades at the early levels, but since he lacks sustain Maokai will come out on top over time, this does however, mean that Maokai does not have kill threat on Rumble unless Rumble is significantly lower on HP. Once Rumble is able to get his double Mpen items (Sorcerer's Boots and Haunting Guise) he will have kill potential on Maoki, especially so if Maoki does not get early MR. Very vulnerable to a gank, but very high damage output if Lee Sin is there for the counter-gank.

Mid -
While all melee vs melee match-ups in the mid lane are very volatile, Talon should have a decent advantage in this lane. While he cannot match the sustained damage that Yasuo can put out, Talon has a much stronger trade/burst and poke potential. Talon will need to avoid early all-ins, but should be able to whittle Yasuo down from range and then from trades at level 3. Since Talon normally goes flask, he should also be able to outlast Yasuo in the lane. Come level 6, Talon has huge burst ability to push Yasuo out of lane or kill him. Must be aware of Yasuo's Wind Wall, as it will cancel out both Rake and Talon's ultimate. With proper timing against Yasuo's Flow and Wind Wall, Talon should come out on top in this lane. If he falls behind though, Talon will have a hard time coming back against the sustained damage of Yasuo.

Bot -
Corki/Braum are stronger than Twitch/Nami. Should look to scout out the lane swap and match it. If they can find the 2v2, then Corki and Braum should be able to out everything SSB's lane. Higher burst, better bullying potential, Braum able to block everything from Twitch/Nami. There are a lot of options for C9's lane. Especially with Twitch having no escape, and Corki able to dash away from Nami bubble, getting down damage onto Twitch, and potentially getting Braum's passive stun off, should be pretty easy and consistent for C9's duo.

Jungle -
Lee Sin has a stronger early-game than Rengar and should look to use it, especially since every lane has solid gank opportunities. Getting Rumble or Talon ahead will be best for the team and should be looked to for primary pressure. Getting wards around level 4/5 into Rengar's jungle will be important, as it will give the rest of the team the knowledge of when and where he reaches level 6.

Lane Match-ups – Samsung Blue

Top -
Maokai will be able to bully Rumble early and will be extremely safe. Will not be able to kill Rumble early though. Must build early MR to outlast Rumble's all in damage as it grows, especially when Rumble gets his double Mpen items. Needs Rengar to gank for the kill, great CC on both and enough damage. Needs to be wary of the counter gank, as Rumble/Lee Sin damage will be much higher.

Mid -
All mid lane melee vs. melee match-ups are volatile, however this one will be difficult for Yasuo. Yasuo should play very aggressive against Talon, trying to stay in Talon's ranged creeps to keep him back. Using Flow to take Rake hits, and then dashing into Talon will net great results. Yasuo has much stronger sustained damage, but will lose out in quick trades or poke. Using the minions properly will allow Yasuo to keep up with Talon after he uses his combo, and can then proceed to keep up the sustained damage on Talon. At 6, Yasuo should make sure to use his knock-up as his spinning slash, as Talon can blink attack over Yasuo's tornado, both dodging and attacking Yasuo. Wind Wall can be used to block Talon ultimate and his Rake, doing so will vastly decrease Talon's damage in an all-in. If Yasuo can get a lead, he should be able to keep it, as the extra Flow shielding will allow him to stay in the fight and out-trade Talon.

Bot -
Twitch/Nami should look to lane swap. If they end up in the 2v2 they will end up getting bullied by Corki/Braum. Faster harass from Corki, and the potential for Braum stun are very deadly to Twitch and should be avoided. In a 2v2 lane, Twitch should just look to safely farm, relying on Nami to keep him safe and healed, and look to get any free shots onto Braum when possible, and avoid fighting Corki.

Jungle -
Rengar is going to want to focus on farming. Getting to level 6 quickly will be a great boon to the team. Outside of farming, ganks against Rumble will be the most successful, as long as Lee Sin is not there for the counter-gank.

Team Composition/Strategy – Cloud9

*Win Condition – 5v5 fight in small areas, utilizing the their AoE. Do not get picked off and do not let Maokai be the one to engage the fights.

Cloud9 have once again come out with a weaker team that looks like the team said, oh I need to play this as individuals. Their only hard CC is coming from Braum and though they have a lot of AoE, they have no way to group SSB up. They do have a great response to SSB diving, however Maokai Yasuo is so strong that when they do engage, C9 will be immediately put on to the back foot, forced to use their team skills on the duo engage while Twitch can fire from behind safely. Cloud9 are going to need to turn early dragon's into snowball wins. They cannot get picked out by Twitch or Rengar and they must avoid any small skirmish that is sought after by SSB. Hopefully, Lee Sin can get some good knock-back kicks and allow Talon to instantly kill the target. C9 have to win in the mid-game, and they have to do so by out-maneuvering Maokai and Yasuo while keep good wards up for Twitch and Rengar.

Team Composition/Strategy – Samsung Blue

*Win Condition – Get picks and small skirmishes throughout the mid game with the double stealth and the synergy of Yasuo/Maokai.

Samsung Blue have gotten the very deadly combination in Maokai/Yasuo and will have great strength throughout the entire game. Early ganks once Yasuo is 6 will be huge and those two moving as a team into skirmish spots in the jungle will yield great results. On top of this huge synergy in every fight aspect of the game, SSB have double stealth champions and very large pick potential with Rengar/Twitch. Opening up the map early and spreading C9 from team-fights will be key for SSB's victory, helping them to keep C9 from grouping for their AoE. Aim for small fights and picks. 2's and 3's, and avoid 5v5 fights until defensive stats come in.

Game Notes -

C9 let Samsung Blue get Yasuo/Maokai. *sad face x10000*.

A trap by C9 ends up casting Lee Sin his flash as SSB move as 3 into the 2 man trap.

Lanes turn into 2v2, with Rumble v. Twitch in the top lane.

Rumble stepping out to ward, gets caught at the wrong time and SSB take First Blood, going onto Twitch.

Rumble is super shut down at the start of this game, something that C9 could not have had happen.

Rengar's level 6 nets SSB a kill onto Yasuo and dragon for SSB.

A forced engagement by SSB on the top lane ends up with them losing the fight, C9 taking 3 kills for 1.

C9 focus top, and are able to get a dive and the turret.

Another deep dive by SSB turns into a 1v1 and C9 able to put damage onto the mid turret.

Despite a very bad laning phase, C9 have brought the gold within 1k with great map movements.

After baiting out the dragon and taking mid, C9 disengage from Rengar ultimate, however Balls gets antsy and his Rumble ultimate is near useless as he tries to use it from too far away. The fight goes crazy, with a lot of bad plays on both sides. Braum ultimate hitting one, Lee Sin kick not being used in time, Talon too far out to nuke Twitch. SSB piles in onto Lee Sin, the jungler and groups for all of C9's AoE, leaves Corki alone. Yasuo waiting so long on his ultimate, Lee Sin never using his. Corki not using his heal on Rumble. Such a crazy fight. If Rumble's ultimate had been up, this would have been a wash or if Lee Sin had hit his. Gah such a crazy fight. C9 end up got 5 for 4 and they get dragon.

C9 catch Nami out, and now C9 have a lead.

SSB set up a trap in their top jungle as C9 seek to control it. Yasuo having his knock-up from wraiths ends up being huge and unexpected. Corki instantly dies and SSB are able to clean up 4 kills for 0, and then take Baron. A great trap by SSB, especially the Yasuo knock-up. Corki could possibly have used a rocket to check the bush instead of his Q, and would have to have flashed super fast once seeing the Tornado. The fight is spread out and C9 cannot use their AoE. Big comeback by SSB and looks to be the closing point for C9 with how strong Yasuo is after this.

C9 still play aggressive, even against a team with Baron. Catch out and kill Nami. Do have to give up Dragon though, when she respawns and makes it to the fight.

Yasuo is super ahead on Yasuo right now. No one on C9 can fight him.

C9 are getting whittled down by Yasuo. C9 should just say screw it at this point and 5 man push bottom against him, force a reaction from SSB.

Rengar is able to catch Talon out with Yasuo, and SSB take the bottom inhibitor and a long drawn out fight, the total trade ending up 4 for 1 and the inhibitor for SSB.

C9 try to make a fight in the middle with a man advantage. It's a bit forced and does not work out due to the gold lead of SSB. C9 back off and lose the turret when the rest of SSB make it middle.

SSB use their gold advantage to start denying vision at Baron, waiting for a pick or for complete vision control as SSB will destroy Baron. However C9 can make their best fight at Baron.

SSB try Baron, are forced to fight, and the fight goes 5 for 2 in SSB's fight, but its very close, much closer than SSB needed to make it.

Yasuo gets caught out and Lee Sin is able to knock him back into C9. C9 then get the pick onto Twitch and Maokai as well. C9 make the call to go for the win, the best call they can make at this point.

C9 group up a little too much and it lets Nami get a 2 man knock up and a 3 man bubble. And this, saves SSB. The Nexus is saved with just a few hits, those 2-3 seconds mattering. Could go over this play with a fine toothed comb, but it was C9's best chance at the win, and was so close.

Item Notes -

Yasuo picks up QSS to combat Exhaust.

End Game Notes -

Once again Cloud9 are able to make great rotations and pull SSB into their team-fights.

SSB make a lot of mistakes, a lot of getting caught out, and do not play their team composition to its full potential.

The laning phase is the only reason SSB won this game, going so much stronger, close to 100 CS and dragon ahead of C9.

What Cloud9 should have done -

Yasuo really messed up Cloud9 the most. I really feel that if they hadn't given up the Maokai/Yasuo combination then C9 could have taken this game.

Inside the game, Cloud9 got way behind in the laning phase. Talon got stomped, and Rumble got picked on and ended up with a bad lane swap. Cloud9 should have really sought after and found that 2v2 lane, keeping Twitch low and allowing Rumble to play against Maokai to get to his level 6 faster.

After the laning phase, Cloud9 played really well. They made their comebacks. Turned a 6k gold lead into an even match. Took a 10k gold lead on SSB into a near win. They did well. Outside of the laning phase, (and the dragon fight in which both sides really messed up) the Corki Q into the bush instead of a longer Rocket really cost them. A fast flash or the rocket could have saved that whole fight and the massive swing into SSB.
